Managing Respite Care

Family Visit

Respite Care

Things to remember when planning Respite Care:

  • Involve your loved one. Allow them to help in the decision making and get their input of where they would like to stay while you are gone.  Keep them in the loop of time frames and duties we will perform in your absence.  Assure them that they will also reap rewards from socializing with other people.

  • Assess your needs.  Make a list of what care will be needed in your absence.  Also decide if the respite care provider will need any special skills or training to be able to care for the resident.

  • Stay organized.  Use a calendar to keep track of appointments and send requests to family and friends.  Don’t forget to include time for yourself and note it on the calendar.
